Summer Coffee Videos by Florian Döring

06.26

For the past couple of years, Florian Döring has been producing some of the best short coffee films around the web for brands like Coffee Circle and Probat. Many of his videos have been featured here on DCILY, including the hugely popular MacGyver AeroPress, starring Hannes Fendrich.

Recently, Döring and Fendrich teamed up again to create a video of their own, bringing to life Fendrich’s own coffee-themed vision of The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony” music video–”The Coffeesweet Symphony.” As the star of the video, Fendrich comes off just as dickish as Richard Ashcroft did in the 90′s, performing flawlessly while brewing a French press on the streets of Berlin.

The film features several coffee heroes as well, with cameos from Cory Andreen, World Cup Taster Champion from Cafe CK and the newly opened Mockingbird Hill in Washington DC as well as Kris Schackman, from Five Elephant Coffee.

Also, just in time for summer holidays, Döring has released a short film capturing a relaxing journey into the wilds of Beerwalde in eastern Germany, enhanced by the joy of drinking fresh brewed coffee with a friend. Caution: this video will inspire you to stop whatever you’re doing and head for nature.

Gizmo Piamo: A Microwavable Moka Pot

02.08

Moka pot. Microwave. Espresso pods. Three things I would never recommend for improving your coffee experience. However, two German brothers decided to combine all three and team up with San Francisco-based Lunar design to create the Piamo—an inverted, microwavable moka pot. Sigh. At least it’s not disposable.

It’s lovely, it’s iconic, it fits in the palm of your hand. But that’s about the only thing going for it. If you’re into espresso pods and nuking your water, this might just be your thing, otherwise ignore all the design and tech blogs this will be most likely be posted on in the coming weeks (guilty). But whether or not it makes good coffee, it will look just as nice on the shelf next to the other moka pot I own and never use.

The Piamo is currently being “next started” on Germany’s “Kickstarter” ($55)

Darth Vader & His Moka Pot

12.26

Darth Vader, a moka pot and Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport are combined with the dark side of coffee brewing and stop motion animation in the latest video from Coffee Circle.

Using the Force to bring a bit of light (and quality) to one of the evilest of brew methods, the moka pot, this video will make Star Wars fans and coffee lovers alike grab their AeroPress Lightsabers to protect the Empire from terrible coffee.
